![]() ![]() Here is a cool video about sleep in animals, including fish. ![]() Fish rely on their eyes to eat, swim and be themselves so they need daylight to. Most of these studies use zebrafish and try to understand things like the effects of sleep deprivation (lack of sleep), insomnia (trouble getting to sleep) and circadian rhythm (sleep cycles). Aquarium fish are typically active during the day time and sleep at night. So far we don’t have the answer to that question but recent video footage of a sleeping octopus showed it changing colours, which suggests it may have been dreaming about hiding from a predator or sneaking up on its own prey (which is why octopuses change colour when they’re awake).īelieve it or not, fish sleep is being studied to help us better understand sleep in people. One wonders if fish dream while they are sleeping. So if fish dont have eyelids, does this mean they do not sleep. Fish do sleep with their eyes open, because they dont have eyelids (except for some sharks) to close Fish sleep is not exactly like human sleep, though. Fish dont need complete darkness to sleep well, but the fact that many fish species actually appear to rest during nighttime might imply that they do. Just like you and me, bettas need their beauty sleep. And remember, try not to wake your sleeping betta. Gavin Leung/Flickr Fish may dream like people do! They just don’t show it I mean, they sleep with their eyes open I hope the information in this guide helps you to determine the difference between a sleeping betta and one that is awake. Fish don’t need eyelids because dust can’t get in their eyes - but they still sleep. ![]()
